NODA News - Eddie Cran Reports
SHOWCASE At The Movies 28th
Sept 2nd Oct 1999 Director: Andy
Johnston Musical Director: David
McFarlane Choreographer: Louise Williamson
Once again this very talented company provided entertainment of a high
standard for their audiences. A clutch of Elvis look-alikes sand, with
great backing, followed by a contrasting style of toe-tapping numbers
from The Boyfriend. Well-known songs from Legends of the Screen
completed Part 1 of this musical evening.
In
Part 2, we enjoyed excerpts from Camelot (superb costumes and
backcloths); and then we had the expected high standards of presentation
of the Headlines section, always a treat. I repeat a comment from my
Showcase report of 1991 Had a little less amplification come from the
orchestra, the show would have benefited: audiences are entitled to hear
what the performers are saying and singing. It was disappointing to see
a number of the audience with hands over their ears. A word of praise
however for the cast, the costuming, wigging and staging, all of which
added to the entertainment value of the night. The show was splendid,
bright and colourful, enjoyed by audience and performers alike.
